Ship scrap—also known as ship breaking or ship recycling—refers to the process of dismantling decommissioned vessels at the end of their 25-to-30-year operational life to reclaim valuable materials. Roughly 95% of a ship’s mass can be recycled or reused, turning a massive retirement vessel into a highly valuable source of industrial raw materials.
