Sealed units from air conditioners and refrigerators dominate the compressor scrap market, valued primarily for the high-grade copper windings locked inside their heavy iron shells. Because these units are hermetically sealed and contain hazardous residual refrigerant gases or cooling oils, they require specialized processing to cleanly split the outer iron casing away from the internal copper coils.
